About Tsubame Fools Paper

Fools Paper (also known as Foolscap Paper) gets its name from the watermark of a jester's cap (fool's cap) that was traditionally used on paper in England. The term originally referred to a specific paper size and quality used in the UK. In Japan, Fools Paper began to be domestically produced in the early Showa era (20th century) as a high-quality writing paper inspired by the British style. It was widely used in schools and government offices due to its suitability for brush pens, fountain pens, pencils, and other writing tools.

Since its founding, Tsubame has utilized a custom-designed Fools Paper renowned for its consistently outstanding quality over many years. In collaboration with a paper manufacturer, Tsubame develops a proprietary version of Fools Paper exclusively for their notebooks. This paper is distinct from conventional commercial types, featuring specifications specifically engineered to meet Tsubame’s stringent quality standards.
